Youth Service America, Disney and Miley Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana) combine forces to celebrate amazing young people improving their communities in a Hollywood-style bash, planned for Sunday, Oct. 5 - more information is available at www.disneyparks.com/miley. Miley's Sweet 16 will shine a spotlight on Youth Service America, an organization that seeks to improve communities by increasing the number and diversity of young people, ages 5 to 25, serving as volunteers. Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is the largest service event in the world, organized by Youth Service America and a consortium of U.S. and international organizations with National Lead Agencies in participating countries. GYSD is an annual global event that highlights and celebrates the year-round contributions of youth to their communities through volunteer service.
During Global Youth Service Day, young people organize highly visible community service projects to address local and global needs. Events took place on April 25-27, 2008 (save the date for GYSD 2009: April 24-26!)...

With teenage volunteering having doubled over the last 20 years, Youth Service America and its partners are encouraging students, ages 5-25, to tackle the most strategic health, education, human service, and environmental problems facing their communities and the planet. We will provide them with public mobilization campaigns, grants and incentives, and tools, information, and training.

Youth Service America announces a new publication entitled Effective Practices for Engaging At-Risk Youth in Service. The guide is designed to provide an overview of the underlying theory and effective practices for engaging at-risk youth in service by examining the roles young people can play in serving their communities. The audiences for this publication are public officials, youth service and service-learning practitioners and teachers, researchers, and others whose mission is to plan and implement community service programs for youth with diverse experiences and backgrounds.
