Mission Statement
Founded in March of 2000 by Manhattan Neighborhood Network to provide disadvantaged youth with access to a quality media forum through which to express creativity, foster dialogue, and encourage social and political participation- Youth Channel is an alternative to mass media-providing equal access to all young people, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation or social status. The first Channel created by youth for youth, YC strives to build confidence, establish role models, inform, educate, and entertain. We encourage youth to create change within their communities and the world by providing trainings and hands on experience in all aspects of television and video production. With a strong emphasis on media education, production and distribution we empower young people to see themselves as active participants in the media and not passive consumers.

What's New

Coming up on August 9th, MNN Youth Channel & Arts Engine will be hosting a town hall meeting in our open television studio right here at 537 W. 59th St. (btw. 10th & 11th Ave.)! Spearheaded by the Project: Think Different organization, based out of Boston, MA- this national youth response day has been organized to help youth take back the media & hold those in positions of power accountable on issues that matter to young people right here in NYC! Communication should be considered a fundamental right in our culture, but these means of communication are rarely in the hands of the communities they serve. This town hall will give young people and media professionals an opportunity for an open dialogue about public interest and the way youth are represented in the media. Join us, AUGUST 9th 2007 @ MNN [537 W. 59th St.]
