Mission Statement

Sunshine Week is a national initiative that encourages people to better understand the importance of their right to know what their government is doing, and why.

Sunshine Week seeks to enlighten and empower people to play an active role in their government at all levels, and to give them access to information that makes their lives better and their communities stronger.

In the 2008 election cycle, that will include getting candidates at all levels of government -- from the White House to city hall -- to discuss their stand on open government issues.

Sunshine Week Partners With Helium to Encourage Citizen Journalists to Write about Open Government and FOI

11:26am Today
Sunshine Week is now in partnership with Helium, www.helium.com, a citizen journalism site that offers people a platform to write on thousands of issues, such as open government and FOI. Writers are ranked by their peers in a blind, fair system and the top submissions are listed accordingly. In addition, there are opportunities to be paid for submissions and, if so inclined, to donate the fee to a cause such as Sunshine Week.

To learn more about the partnership, see our announcement at www.sunshineweek.org/sunshineweek/helium08, or go straight to the Sunshine Week page on the Helium site, www.helium.com/partners/sunshineweek.
