Alaska needs all the muscle it can get! That's right, Alaska. January 3rd, 1959 will mark the 50th anniversary of Alaska's statehood, and yet with a measly percentage of Electoral votes this mammoth-sized state is virtually ignored in the political arena.
Alaska became a state after an unfair history as a territory of the United States. This history included taxation without representation, and the extraction of raw material that was then shipped to the continuous states. These things areindicativeof a colonial economy and it's exploitation. In present times the Alaskan economy is still stunted by it's reliance on natural resources and service industry and a lack of manufacturing. This is, for the most part opposite of most of the United States!
I've joined Think to help spread the word regarding Alaska's precious resources, it's wildlife, and it's indigenous people -- a beautiful habitat and culture that's voice is strangled by the search for more oil.
I am proudly unaffiliated with any political party.
