[warning: impromptu incoherent conspiracy theorist legal ramblings of a second-year law student with no immediate access to internets] The more reading I do surrounding Medellin v. Texas, the more upset I get because the decision to ignore the International Court of Justice's ruling in this matter reinforces three principles: Principle 1. The United States of America continues to have no respect for international law or the rights of human beings. Principle 2. The United States of America has a half-assed interpretation of its own law and does not honor its word when working with international bodies through governmental loopholes. Principle 3. President George W. Bush is a power hungry git who manages to be wrong even when he should...

First, let's thank the powers that be: Latisha Rutledge has been found. She and her family are all okay. That is excellent, excellent news. Chioma Gray's disappearance and investigation, however, have more problematic factors added to it. I'm going to quote a substantial part of Deidra's post; I encourage you to go to her blog and read it in its entirety. Just when you think that it's over, it's not. Have you heard of Latisha Rutledge and Chioma Gray?

Both women are missing: families worrying, law enforcement searching, and the national media conspicuously silent.

About Latisha Rutledge:

Family members said a pregnant mother from Detroit and her two small children ages 4 and 2 have not been seen in nearly two weeks. They were supposed to board a Greyhound bus in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. headed to Downtown Detroit, but no one has seen them since they were spotted at the bus station.

Latisha Rutledge, 22, is eight and a half months pregnant, and her baby is due any day.

Family members said she may have already given birth.

Rutledge had been living with her uncle in Florida for the last couple months trying to start over, but things didn’t work out.
