Within the past three years I've had the opportunity to be involved in my community through a leadership program. Which has enabled me to be part of a larger leadership program throughout the state, as well as national level. With this program I was able to obtain a better understanding of how important it is to take a servant leadership role in your community. I had the honor to be part of the National Community Leadership Association Conference this year, there, I met Mary Fisher.
This woman is an idol, a true servant leader to say the least. She opened my eyes to see the epidemic of aids around our nation. This also made me visualize that what I am doing in my community is just a very small percentage of what I want to do and what I can do with my life.
As well, in these past three years I've also made many connections with youth all over the nation, its amazing to me to see how many obstacles kids are dealing with these days. I often hear them tell me that they are surprised that I am willing to listen to them and help them out, because they thought adults didn't care. I see these kids and ask myself what will there future be, for all of them I see a bright future ahead as long as they have someone by there side to empower them to exceed there goals that they've set in there life or even help them by setting a vision....a goal in life.
As a society we complain about, "kids these days", when the cause of all this chaos and struggles is to due to the lack of involvment with our youth. So I want to part of the solution and not the problem, so along with the mission the Kansas Health Foundation has made, which is to make "Kansas the best state in the nation to raise a child", I believe that this is a start and should continue to spread all over the nation. So I guess you can say this is just a single reason of why I joined Think! I'm just trying to make a difference and "Be the change I wish to see in the world" as Mr. Ghandi stated. My advice to you is to get to know a persons story, it is then when you value life and your vision becomes just a little clearer.
