Background

KRS-One stands for “Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone.” Knowledge is power, and that’s why I am dedicated to expanding the public’s notion of hip hop to understand the culture and social movement that it represents.

It’s imperative that we use the music to speak out against social ills, as well as to foster discussions. Chuck D and I teamed up to do a remix of “Bin Laden” which spoke out against the conservative censorship, Reagnomics, and our current political system, for instance. My book "The Gospel of Hip-hop" strives to educate readers about the conscious side of hip hop—it’s a movement. They don’t call me “the Teacha” for nothing.
