"If you ain’t laughing, you ain’t living" - Carlos Mencia
Background
A lack of respect for education in poor neighborhoods is an overwhelming issue that needs to be addressed. In most under privileged communities students that excel in school are berated and threatened by their peers rather than applauded. We should facilitate these children and young adults having pride in receiving an education rather than enabling the fear currently suppressing them from doing so. Additionally, I am extremely motivated to raise global awareness in the area of foreign policy. I believe if more citizens had a heightened awareness and understanding of the conditions in other countries (especially third world countries) they may be better informed in their decision making and ultimately affect change. By leaving our comfort zones and experiencing these environments first hand we are able to put moments and faces on people that we can often discount without the valuable information we need to make the decisions to aid them.
