When war broke out in Sierra Leone, I had to flee my country and live as refugee in Guinea, West Africa at the age of 11. In the years spent as a refugee, I wanted to express my feelings to the world, and I discovered music as an opportunity of doing that. Since then, I have been promoting peace through my music with Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars, the band I am in that was formed while living in the refugee camp. My background, along with the other members of the group, was featured in the multi-award winning documentary "Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars." This documentary also raised awareness for the progress made in Sierra Leone following years of conflict.
Now, I hope to continue promoting peace in Africa and share our personal experiences as a part of Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars in the 2008 world tour beginning January 23rd. My performances with the All Stars have included very successful World Tours from 2005-Present. As the youngest member of my band, I think my rapping and dancing helps our band reach a younger audience with our message. We have released an album titled, “Living Like A Refugee” that tells of many personal struggles and stories from our time living in a refugee camp.
Throughout our several World Tours, we have done work with the United Nations ninemillion.org campaign, the ONE campaign, Witness and Save The Children and we have performed many shows for other organizations. Our band recorded and released "Give Peace a Chance" with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry for the compilation album, Instant Karma: The International Campaign to Save Darfur. We also recorded a version of U2's "Seconds" with Joe Perry for inclusion on a benefit compilation titled In The Name Of Love: Africa Celebrates U2 which is set for release April 1st, 2008. A portion of the album’s proceeds directly benefit The Global Fund.
I hope that the work I have done with various charities and non-profit groups continues to bring awareness along with the music that my band and I share in each performance around the world.
