Be Creative. Be Safe. Postcards From Kentuckiana Art for AIDS

Artists Wanted

Kentuckiana Art for AIDS invites artists to participate in our first annual visual AIDS - Be Creative. Be Safe. Postcards benefit. We are looking for artists to donate a 4" x 6" original work on paper for the exhibition and sale. Painting, drawing, photography, printmaking and mixed media are all welcome. We are pleased to announce our host gallery is David Green / STARViN-ARTiST.

DEADLINE is postmark Saturday, November 1, 2008 (NO late entries)

Be Creative. Be Safe. Postcards is a show and sale of original, postcard-sized artworks on paper by established and emerging artists. All artworks are $75 and sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The works are signed on the back and exhibited so that the artists' signatures cannot be seen. While buyers have a list of all participating artists, they don't know who created which piece until it is purchased and the signature is revealed. A collector might end up with a work by a famous artist or one they don't yet know. Either way, they walk away with a great piece of art while supporting visual AIDS of Kentuckiana Art for AIDS's important work.

If you would like to participate, please contact us for Artists Submission Forms.
kyartaids@yahoo.com

Then:

2. Sign and print name on the BACK only -- also indicate the top with an arrow.
3. Carefully package artwork. Do not wrap wet or sticky artwork. (Recommended: wrap artwork in wax paper and place between thin cardboard.)
4. Complete both submission forms.
5. Note: UNSOLD artwork will NOT be RETURNED, UNLESS a 6x9 self addressed, stamped envelope is included. Please attach proper postage for return of artwork (87¢ is suggested, unless postcard and/or packaging weights over 3 oz.) Art For Progress is at it again. In their quest to unearth the best in emerging art, film, music and fashion, AFP will host their second annual Clash of the Artists this coming November. While last year's competition was a brilliant success, it will be exciting to see what this year brings. Clash of the Artists is the first competition of its kind, where artists from across the globe compete for unique opportunities and prizes in an interactive environment.

The annual competition encompasses genres of visual art, film, fashion, live music, DJ’s, and a new category, “creative”. The interactive judging process allows the on-line community to view short films, listen to music, and see the work of artists and designers from China to New York. Over a five-week voting period, three finalists will be chosen in each category. The competition will culminate with a special live finals multimedia event in March, 2008.

The winners from last year's inaugural competition were given exposure to key persons in their respective industries. Selma Karaca, the fashion winner, was given a consultation with Kelly Cutrone of People's Revolution, and also showed her Spring 2008 Collection in New York Fashion Week. Musical group Quitzow met with top music public relations firm Magnum PR and held a residency at Pianos this past summer. In the visual arts category, Tree Hugger Project won a consultation with Jeannie Freilich from Jeannie Freilich Fine Art. Filmmaker Daniel Maldonado received a package that included Apple’s Final Cut software courtesy of Tekserve and a weekend film production equipment rental from Abel Cine Tech. DJ Rob Paterson was featured in the annual AFP Winter Music Conference 2007 event in Miami. He also received music production courses from NYC's Dubspot.

The competition also allows artists to gain exposure regardless of winning. The most far-reaching contestant, Lu Kun of Shanghai, was featured this year in AFP's show during New York Fashion Week. All finalists are also given AFP memberships, valued from $150 to $450. Semi-finalists are offered discounted memberships as well.

Last year, 120 artists were featured, over 4,000 people voted on-line, and over 300 people attended the finals event. AFP will begin accepting artists’ submissions in mid-November, with on-line voting to begin in January. Based in New York City, AFP seeks to increase the visibility of talented artists while providing arts education in under-served schools and communities. Proceeds from the finals event will aid AFP in further developing their arts education program.
