HIV/AIDS among African-Americans (CDC, August 2008)
- Blacks accounted for 18,121 (49%) of the estimated 37,331 new HIV/AIDS diagnoses in 2005 (33 states reporting, CDC)
- The primary transmission route for men was sex with other men (MSM), followed by injection drug use and high-risk heterosexual contact
- For women, the primary transmission route was high-risk heterosexual contact
- From the beginning of the epidemic through December 2005, an estimated 211,559 blacks with AIDS have died
