Yéle Changing Lives in Haiti Through Education
Yéle Haiti supports 4,500 children from underprivileged families to give scholarships so they can attend school. Yéle has committed to paying the fees for their education through the end of their primary schooling. Spread out through five communities and 88 schools, the children also receive books and supplies as part of their scholarship.
There are currently between 500,000 and one million children out of school throughout the country because poor families cannot afford the fees and the government can only fund ten percent of the country’s schools – and although subsidized, even state schools require a fee to attend.
To sponsor one child in school for one year costs an average of US$90 – it is up to $120 in urban areas and lower in smaller communities.
