Chris Rock on Tuesday Voting

New York Magazine quotes Chris Rock, currently on tour, at his Wednesday night Madison Square Garden show: "They don't want you to vote. If they did, we wouldn't vote on a Tuesday. In November. You ever throw a party on a Tuesday? No. Because nobody would come."

Amen. Why do we vote on Tuesday? Here's the answer. And here's more about who we are and what we do. Really curious about other reasons why our voting system is so broken? Check out our videos and subscribe on YouTube. Photo via Yahoo! Movies.

John Legend Performs U2's Pride for MLK, Jr.

Welcome to those of you who made your way here by way of the History Channel. Our founder William Wachtel is featured in Tom Brokaw's KING documentary, a look at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy 40 years after his assassination. The video is of John Legend's performance of U2's Pride for the film, via YouTube.

Why Tuesday? was founded in 2005 to honor the 40th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Sadly, nearly half a century after the passage of the Voting Rights Act, the United States lags behind nearly all nations in voter turnout.

Honoring the spirit of Dr. King, and the emphasis he placed on “that short walk to the voting booth,” we work in a nonpartisan way to make the broken state of our voting system an issue that our politicians cannot afford to avoid. For more about how, click to find out.

Vote for WHY TUESDAY?

We are up for the MySpace IMPACT Award for Social Justice and we’re in second place, down by 5% with only four days left in the voting.

We’re asking all of our friends to vote, and most importantly spread the word by posting a MySpace bulletin so all your friends vote for Why Tuesday. Here’s the link:

http://myspace. com/impactawards

Our tiny nonprofit dedicated to increasing voter participation is up for $10,000 (serious cash for us) and front-page promotion on MySpace.

You have the power to push us over the top. We can only do it with your help. Can you hook us up with your vote and a bulletin?

Thanks,
Jacob
