Mission Statement

The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy seeks to improve the lives and future prospects of children and families and, in particular, to help ensure that children are born into stable, two-parent families who are committed to and ready for the demanding task of raising the next generation. Our specific strategy is to prevent teen pregnancy and unplanned pregnancy among single, young adults.

We support a combination of responsible values and behavior by both men and women and responsible policies in both the public and private sectors.  If we are successful, child and family well-being will improve. There will be less poverty, more opportunities for young men and women to complete their education or achieve other life goals, fewer abortions, and a stronger nation.

Among our targeted programs is the Latino Initiative. The Latino teen birth rate is now the highest among all racial and ethnic groups in the United States—53% of all Latinas get pregnant at least once before turning 20 years-old. The National Campaign is dedicated to working with the Latino community in its efforts to reduce continued high rates of adolescent pregnancy and childbearing.

Law & Order SVU Tackles Teen Pregnancy
As detectives Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni) and John Munch (Richard Belzer) track down leads in a malicious murder, they discover a community in chaos with a group of teen girls in a "pregnancy pact." A strange web of secrets and bad blood in this "close-knit" neighborhood offers a challenge for the detectives. Did you know that 3 in 10 girls in the U.S. will get pregnant by age 20? Teen pregnancy happens in all kinds of communities and in all kinds of families. But it's 100% avoidable.

Baby Borrowers
Five teenage couples take part in an NBC reality TV social experiment that lets them experience life in fast forward. They are given nice homes and a brief parenting class, and then real life babies care for thanks to volunteer parents (some of whom were teen parents themselves). Each couple deals with the drama, surprise, challenges, and rewards of parenting in ways that are riveting and intense. “It’s not TV, it’s birth control!”
