Since the Show...

I am still volunteering at the Salisbury VA Medical Center helping with the outreach of veterans. I have applied to positions at the VA but still with no successful outcomes. I will not stop trying because I believe that the right job is out there for me. As for school I am still currently enrolled as a full time student pursuing my Bachelor degree in Business Management maintaining a 3.7GPA. My projected finish date is December 2009.

My son is doing very well, he is currently walking and my boyfriend is still working as a truck driver.

I am living with a weight off my shoulders now that my credit card debt and school loans have been paid off with the help of MTV and the Dr. Donda West Foundation established for Kanye West's mother.  I also received a college fund for my son (Malachi McAllister) and a financial counselor from the Charles Schwab bank.

After the show...

At first when I was contacted by MTV I really did not know what to expect from the whole documentary. I thought that my story would not be appealing to viewers as I only attend school, volunteer at the VA and take care of my child. I never thought that I would meet Kanye West, as I remember watching him on TV and listening to his music while on convoys in Iraq.  Kanye was very understanding; he listened to my situation and helped me to a better life that I sincerely appreciate very much....

Hey everyone, This is my first blog so I am sharing my personal experiences on issues that I have encountered so that it can somehow help someone who is going through the same situation. If you have any questions please feel free to post it to the blog and I will try my best to answer to the best of my knowledge, or will guide you in the right direction. The transition from military to civilian life is hard, but if you stay determined and focused you will succeed. I know that talking about our experiences in Iraq can become very difficult. I personally found it easier to relate to someone who is a veteran and has been through the same or similar situation and for me that was my boyfriend who is also a veteran. This enabled me to vent and express all the emotions that I was going through and not let it build up. From my personal experience I realized that by ...

I joined the military in May of 2001 to get money for college. I was working on my Associates Degree and never anticipated being sent to war. I remember watching the events of September 11th play out on TV and realized that I would most likely be headed overseas.  I served in the United States Army and worked in a transportation unit. I was sent to Kuwait from My main responsibilities were loading and unloading vehicles for convoy. I thought Kuwait was hard, but that was until I was sent to Iraq. After being home for only a couple of months, I got word that I was being sent to Iraq in January ’05. I was terrified and had no idea what to expect. I returned from Iraq in December ’05. In Iraq, I rose to the rank of sergeant. I drove a gunner escort truck. My responsibility was to escort fuel and water to different camps. I encountered IED and mortar attacks on numerous occasions. Three of my...
