I know many of us contributed to the presidential campaigns, and are taking a much deserved breather from donations, volunteering, and mass-emails. Still, I want to share this with all of you both because it features Millennium Promise and because, as the holidays approach, many of us will be want to continue to give, and this has some great advice. The Senate Committee on Millennium Development Goals recently visited the Pampaida Millennium Village and announced that we CAN achieve the MDGs by 2015!
The concept of the Millennium Villages Project (MVP) of which Pampaida is one, is an integrated development initiative that is showing the world that by empowering rural communities with quality information, basic necessities and adequate resources, people in the poorest regions of rural Africa can lift themselves out of extreme poverty in five years time.

This week Japan is hosting the 2008 G8 Summit, bringing together global leaders to discuss the world economy, environmental concerns, African development and other pressing world issues. Development and Africa will be a major focus of the summit with emphasis on promoting international efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) - eight globally endorsed targets for halving extreme poverty in its many forms by 2015. In addition to the G8 Summit, Japan recently hosted the Fourth Annual Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) to promote an exchange of ideas between African leaders and international development partners.
