For these students, a high-quality education is the first step towards a prosperous future; yet, many children living in poverty lack access to even a basic education. That’s why achieving universal primary education is a fundamental target of the Millennium Development Goals eight globally-endorsed objectives addressing extreme poverty in its many forms.

Developing a Global Partnership

  This week Japan is hosting the 2008 G8 Summit, bringing together global leaders to discuss the world economy, environmental concerns, African development and other pressing world issues. Development and Africa will be a major focus of the summit with emphasis on promoting international efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) - eight globally endorsed targets for halving extreme poverty in its many forms by 2015. In addition to the G8 Summit, Japan recently hosted the Fourth Annual Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) to promote an exchange of ideas between African leaders and international development partners.

A new focus for networking students: global poverty

Millennium Campus Network, an organization of Greater Boston schools entirely run by student members will hold its debut conference at MIT on April 18-20 to raise awareness about the MDGs and global poverty.
