"Murs for President"
Background

MURS is an independent rapper that burst out onto the scene as a solo artist in 2003. After years of rapping without a label, he has a powerful internet following. His Paid Dues festival also makes him the only rapper to own his own music festival. Murs has toured the world without having a major record deal, but is ready to make his album debut on a major record this September 30th.

He prides himself on swearing off drugs, and stands for unity, peace, love and having a good time. He wants to revolutionize the face of hiphop as an advocate of making informed decisions. Dubbed by critics as both well spoken and iconic, his album is appropriately entitled: Murs For President (Love And Rockets).

“Let me speak for hip-hop," says Murs. "I’m the one guy who is qualified to represent us to the masses -- which are obviously tired of us because hip-hop can’t sell records. It can only sell ringtones.  It’s become a mockery of itself. It’s become club music. For us to lead back into the marketplace and to be a respected art form, I feel that I’m the most qualified person. It’s time for hip-hop to have a change.”

As a vocal liberal, MURS is not afraid to take a public political stance. He most recently was spotted at the Democratic Convention in Denver. It is his hope that more young people become involved in the 2008 election. Make sure to register to vote this fall!
