Leonardo DiCaprio is not only the smoldering face behind “Leo-mania,” he is an inspirational activist. The actor is especially concerned with the environment and has taken amazing efforts to protect it. DiCaprio refuses to fly on private jets because they waste fuel, drives a hybrid car, and uses solar power energy in his home. He has fused his film background with his goal to protect the environment by both writing and producing environmentally conscious and educational films, including his most recent, 11th Hour and a television show called “Eco-Town” for the Discovery Channel. As an actor DiCaprio’s work for the film Blood Diamonds tapped into his activism and sparked his efforts to educate the public about conflict diamonds. During the shoot DiCaprio visited with orphaned children in Mozambique. He has always taken an interest in helping children since he established the “Leonardo DiCaprio Computer Center” at his hometown’s public library branch in Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Through his foundation committed to actively fighting for environmental awareness, The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, the actor-activist partners with premiere environmental organizations like Global Green USA, National Geographic Kids, and the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and will continue to fight on behalf of Mother Nature and her children.
