Background

Kanye West and MTV's Choose or Lose 2008 have recently teamed up to honor our young veterans returning from war in the Middle East and high light the many issues these young service men and women face.  The hour long special, Homecoming, will air July 28th at 10 pm est on MTV.  Watch as Kanye and Sway present these young heroes with life changing opportunities.

In 2003 hip-hop icon Kanye West and his mother, the late Dr. Donda West, founded the Kanye West Foundation to help combat the rising high school drop-out rate. The key initiative of the Kanye West Foundation is Loop Dreams a program which integrates traditional learning with hip-hop music, in order to make academic material more appealing. The program allows students to explore all aspects of the music industry, from production and editing to business management. In the Spring of 2008, Kanye opened the Loop Dreams Teacher Training Institute in Chicago to enable teachers across the country to implement the curriculum.

In addition to his foundation, Kanye has spoken out on many social and political issues. He performed at both Live Aid and Live Earth and is noted for being the only hip-hop artist who has spoken out against the homophobia rampant in the industry. Kanye has used his music to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina recovery, as well as benefit the Make Poverty History Campaign. Through his music and his efforts, Kanye seeks to make the world a more equal and accepting place.
