Great Article from the New York Times on 3/10 about a new book "The Life You Can Save" by Peter Singer, bioethics professor from Princeton U.
Quotation from the book:
“First premise: Suffering and death from lack of food, shelter and medical care are bad.
Second premise: If it is in your power to prevent something bad from happening, without sacrificing anything nearly as important, it is wrong not to do so.
Third premise: By donating to aid agencies, you can prevent suffering and death from lack of food, shelter and medical care, without sacrificing anything nearly as important.
Conclusion: Therefore, if you do not donate to aid agencies, you are doing something wrong.”

Sure, the numbers are staggering: 1.1 billion people who lack access to safe water, and, according to the World Health Organization, 5,000 children die each day from the effects of unsafe drinking water.
It’s a massive problem, but you can make an impact and be a part of the solution. During the week of March 16-22nd a number of restaurants in West Michigan are teaming up to help those in need.
When you visit a dining establishment and ask for a glass of tap water with your meal, you expect it to be pure and cold, possibly garnished with a lemon wedge, and FREE.

"This year alone, more than 500,000 women will die during pregnancy or childbirth. Thats one woman missing every minute of every day. We call these women missing because their deaths could have been avoided. In fact, 80 per cent of maternal deaths could be averted if women had access to essential maternal health services.
We know where and how these women are dying, and we have the resources to prevent these deaths. Yet, maternal mortality is still one of the most neglected problems internationally."
Sunday, March 8th is International Women's Day. International Aid http://www.internationalaid.org is committed to improving maternal and child health across the globe in developing countries.
