Mission Statement

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America is the nation's first and largest group dedicated to the Troops and Veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the civilian supporters of those Troops and Veterans.

More than 1.5 million American troops have served in Iraq or Afghanistan, and thousands have been deployed multiple times. IAVA addresses critical issues facing new veterans and their families, including mental health, Traumatic Brain Injury, a stretched VA system, inadequate health coverage for national guardsmen and reservists, and outdated GI Bill educational benefits.

IAVA is dedicated to educating the public about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, advocating on behalf of those who have served, and fostering a community for troops, veterans, and their families.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America has been working with a bipartisan coalition on Capitol Hill, along with other leading Veterans Service Organizations for the past year and a half to get a new GI Bill passed for our troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. On Monday, June 30, the new GI Bill was signed into law and will take effect in the next year.

IAVA is a necessary, humble reminder of things that are slowly becoming treated with less activity as publicized news. Everyone lost someone to something in the epic scroll of these pages in our history. I suggest watching any one of the official advertisements from the Think community. You will see how "...the Holocaust happened to people like us" inside of a 30 second commercial. Us, at any given time, can be defined as being everyone, without excluding soldiers who fight for their own country under orders of their own country. Whether you believe the Holocaust happened, or it was just fabricated propaganda (some people still believe that), we are all en route to find it as a story to swallow within our individual & collective reality. Open your eyes & listen.
