Mission Statement

Facing History and Ourselves is an international educational and professional development organization whose mission is to engage students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice, and antisemitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and informed citizenry. By studying the historical development and lessons of the Holocaust and other examples of genocide, students make the essential connection between history and the moral choices they confront in their own lives.

Student video: Projections
Students from various high schools spent the day in Washington, D.C. to take action on the situation in the Darfur region of Sudan. To encourage others to act, they worked together to create a powerful multimedia project. In this piece, they projected images from Darfur onto a wall and inserted themselves in the pictures, adding compelling text and voice-overs. Through this activist piece, students hope to demonstrate how we each have the responsibility to care for and act on behalf of others.
