Mission Statement

Do 1 Thing is a nationwide effort between photographers and journalists that raises awareness of homeless teenagers and encourages individuals to do one thing to assist them.

Why Support Do1Thing?

There are many ways to get involved or to contribute to the Do1Thing project. Here are the top reasons why people choose to support us:

Sustainability: The Do1Thing model moves beyond awareness alone and seeks to design innovative sustainable solutions. Donors closely align themselves with charities when they make a personal connection to a cause. Do1Thing seeks to make a one to one connection, uniting donors with non-profits directly working with homeless teens by partnering with Covenant House International and StandUp for kids.

The issues surrounding homelessness are gigantic and the solutions offered are endless. Do1Thing seeks to unite individuals because they believe collaboration is paramount to solving any issue.

Participation: Individual participation is empowering to both the individual and the charity.  Transparency is essential when donating to charities and Do1Thing encourages individuals to engage charities. Understanding how a charity works, where they spend their money and who benefits from their work creates transparency.

Empowerment: It is the goal of Do1Thing to empower homeless youth to move themselves from homelessness to a permanent housing. Empowerment comes by outfitting the teens with training, items and supplies needed to overcome their current situations move forward.

Creativity: Creativity is the key to success. Whether it is fundraising, design, relaying the message, we find the most creative way to get the word out. There is always a better solution to any problem and we continually seek to find it..

Connectivity: We partner with Covenant House International, the largest privately-funded agency in the Americas providing shelter and other services to homeless, runaway and throwaway youth.  Our second partner is StandUp for Kids. The mission of StandUp for Kids is to help homeless and street kids.

They do this, every day, in cities across America, carrying out their mission through volunteers who go to the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives.

Integrity: We strive to be honest, transparent and have the utmost integrity in all we do.

Communication: We are photographers, journalists, editors, designers and writers. We are storytellers. We witness history and are compelled to share it.

Nationwide Event to Raise Awareness and Provide Support for Homeless Youth

PARTICIPATE:

Did you know that there are more homeless people right now than at any other time in America or that more than 1.3 million of them are children?

3 out of ever 10 homeless adults admit to a history in foster care and with 25,000 youth aging out of foster care each year, the next wave of homeless in America will surely comprise of orphans who were never adopted.

If you care about foster care, adoption, homelessness, children, families or the future of our country, you should participate!

Event Description:
More than 25 Pulitzer-prize winners along with some of the most recognized names in photography have come together to put a "face" on homelessness while asking you, the public, to put a "face" on activism by doing 1 thing to help them.

We believe that if everyone did 1 thing on 1 day to help 1 cause, great change would come.

The issues surrounding homeless are gigantic. The answers overwhelming. But what if every did 1 thing to help?

JOIN US in doing 1 thing on the day Americans spend more than 14 billion dollars telling each other how much they care, do 1thing to help someone less fortunate than yourselves.

Below is a list of things you can choose from. Choose 1 and do it!
