Mission Statement
Do 1 Thing is a nationwide effort between photographers and journalists that raises awareness of homeless teenagers and encourages individuals to do one thing to assist them. Why Support Do1Thing?
There are many ways to get involved or to contribute to the Do1Thing project. Here are the top reasons why people choose to support us:
Sustainability: The Do1Thing model moves beyond awareness alone and seeks to design innovative sustainable solutions. Donors closely align themselves with charities when they make a personal connection to a cause. Do1Thing seeks to make a one to one connection, uniting donors with non-profits directly working with homeless teens by partnering with Covenant House International and StandUp for kids.
The issues surrounding homelessness are gigantic and the solutions offered are endless. Do1Thing seeks to unite individuals because they believe collaboration is paramount to solving any issue.
Participation: Individual participation is empowering to both the individual and the charity. Transparency is essential when donating to charities and Do1Thing encourages individuals to engage charities. Understanding how a charity works, where they spend their money and who benefits from their work creates transparency.
Empowerment: It is the goal of Do1Thing to empower homeless youth to move themselves from homelessness to a permanent housing. Empowerment comes by outfitting the teens with training, items and supplies needed to overcome their current situations move forward.
Creativity: Creativity is the key to success. Whether it is fundraising, design, relaying the message, we find the most creative way to get the word out. There is always a better solution to any problem and we continually seek to find it..
Connectivity: We partner with Covenant House International, the largest privately-funded agency in the Americas providing shelter and other services to homeless, runaway and throwaway youth. Our second partner is StandUp for Kids. The mission of StandUp for Kids is to help homeless and street kids.
They do this, every day, in cities across America, carrying out their mission through volunteers who go to the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives.
Integrity: We strive to be honest, transparent and have the utmost integrity in all we do.
Communication: We are photographers, journalists, editors, designers and writers. We are storytellers. We witness history and are compelled to share it.
