as a young black female i have experienced unique integrated oppression that has and will continue to effect my life in ways i could not even fathom. what i do know though, is what i see. what i see is a powerful nation with powerful flaws. what i see is an education system which serves as an institution to perpetuate social inequality. what i see is young people, especially young women, especially young black women not taking responsibility and pride in their bodies, especially as it pertains to their sexual health--and we're dying because of it.
what i haven't figured out is how to solve these problems.
what i have figured out is that i will try.
and it starts with the "self"
and thats why i have made my 2008 motto:
i will not compromise my mind, body, or soul for any person, place, or thing.
as Common flows, "forever begins, just because i thought about it"
its time to think.
