NYC teens “Discovered” a new form of activism

Fifteen New York City high-school teens have created “Discovered”, a machinama film on human sex trafficking. What is machinama? I wasn’t sure either, but it’s essentially digital animation from video game footage.

The film was created for a project by Global Kids, and TODAY, July 1st, the young innovative filmmakers will present their work at the first annual Festival on digital media. The 10-minute video is extremely creative and it’s intent is to educate their peers about issues on human trafficking.

Evin Cruz, 16, says of his film, “I hope people can be more aware of what goes on, and I hope the government can play a stronger role in what’s happening to end the suffering.”

For more information read HERE! And if you are in NYC, check out the premiere.

Are you watching “I’m a celebrity get me out of here!“  We hope not (because Heidi and Spencer are rude and embarrasing) and think it’s about time someone on TV tried to do something positive with the platform they have called prime time television.

The Philanthropist, airing for the first time on NBC this Wednesday, revolves around a chief executive who, after the death of his young son, decides to dedicate himself to charitable causes such as fighting starvation in Haiti and aiding sweatshop workers in Myanmar.

For fans of Showtime’s hit TV series Weeds, I’m sure you’re aware of this week’s Season 5 premiere. Although I have yet to watch the newest episode (as I remain quite anticipated…). I wonder what impact a show called Weeds, a blatant drug reference, is having on immigration...Read more "Weeds" commentary in regards to immigration at b-listed!
