Already a social activist, Pitt was drawn to social activism with new fervor after the disastrous Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. Splitting time between New Orleans and Los Angeles Pitt, got together with a group of housing professionals to set a goal of building 150 homes for the people in New Orleans and named it Make It Right. He has been committed to matching $5 million in donations. Pitt is also heavily involved with AIDS research and the commitment to stop DARFUR with Angelina Jolie which they support through their Jolie-Pitt Foundation. In addition, Pitt joined U2’s Bono in support of the One Campaign which is committed to the battles against AIDS and poverty. Recently Pitt visited Africa to campaign for the Make Poverty History project. For his philanthropic efforts in Africa, Newsweek Magazine recognized Pitt as one of their “15 People Who Make America Great.” Pitt is also very interested in the environment. He served as the design jury chairman for Global Green, an organization that is dedicated to protecting, cleaning, and building on the environment while keeping it green, and providing clean drinking water for those who need it world wide. Pitt is widely known for his social awareness even in his personal life, as he has adopted, with Angelina Jolie, children from impoverished countries to love and father.
