""We cannot close ourselves off to information and ignore the fact that millions of people are out there suffering. I honestly want to help. I don't believe I feel differently from other people. I think we all want justice and equality, a chance for a life with meaning. All of us would like to believe that if we were in a bad situation someone would help us.” " - Angelina Jolie
Background
Angelina Jolie who still refers to herself as “just a punk rock kid with tattoos” started making tremendous changes to this world after filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia and witnessing the suffering and poverty of families there. Since then she has been unbelievably involved with humanitarian work like creating the Jolie-Pitt foundation in 2006, becoming a Goodwill ambassador for the UNHCR and focusing on field missions, visiting refugees, and internally displaced persons all around the world. The Jolie-Pitt foundation is a huge supporter of organizations including Doctors Without Borders and Global Action for Children, each of which received $1 million. On a political level Jolie seeks awareness for humanitarian issues by attending World Refugee Day in Washington, D.C. annually, and served as the speaker for the World Economic Forum (2005 and 2006) in Davos. In 2006 she campaigned for Global Education Week in the quest to provide an education to children all over the world. Her more personal philanthropic efforts include an MTV documentary, The Diary Of Angelina Jolie & Dr. Jeffrey Sachs in Africa, profiling Jolie and the economist Dr. Jeffrey Sachs as they ventured to Western Kenya to confront poverty and its devastating effects. On the most personal level Jolie is committed to children and humanitarian causes, as she initially chose to adopt two children from devastated countries to love and mother before deciding to have her own child naturally. She is truly on a mission to mother the world, providing her talents, love, and decication.
