Mission Statement
Amazwi, a volunteer-driven arts organization, utilizes vehicles of storytelling to build upon and strengthen its founding pillars of empowerment, preservation, and education. We welcome you to Amazwi, a South African NPO with three projects: Writers and Artists in Residence (WARP), a.magazine: non-fiction narratives of africa, and the School of Media Arts (SOMA). a.magazine will be distributed this fall in independent booksellers in the USA, Canada, and South Africa. Look for our magazine and enjoy an artistic view of African Life; or read the Amazwi Villager, and understand the importance of training rural women narrative journalism. Amazwi--Zulu for voices--empowers women to write the stories that need to be heard. Their voices become stronger with each issue published. We welcome you--and your voice--to help us develop a female media representation in South Africa.
