DIGITAL MEDIA AND LEARNING COMPETITION IS OPEN (DEADLINE OCT 15, 2008). SOUTH AFRICAN APPLICATIONS WELCOMED!

I just wanted to make sure that all of your supporters were aware of the 2008 $2M HASTAC/MacArthur Digital Media and Learning Competition. The theme of this year's competition is participatory learning which we broadly define as using new digital media for sharing ideas or planning, designing, implementing, or just discussing ideas and goals together.

I'm sure some of your supporters have a big idea on how to use digital media to make a positive change in the world and further learning and collaboration. We want to hear your ideas!

This year we are piloting limited international eligibility for our Innovation in Participatory Learning Award and SOUTH AFRICA is one of the countries eligible to apply without a partner.

In addition to our Innovation in Participatory Learning Award, this year we have introduced a new award, our Young Innovators award, targeted to U.S. applicants aged 18-25. I'm sure some of your U.S. youth supporters have big ideas and we want to help them get their ideas from the "garage" to implementation.

I've posted the full rfp below, but you can also check out the full details at http://www.dmlcompetition.net.

And follow us on Twitter @ http://twitter.com/dmlComp

I hope some of you that have those ideas cooking, will consider applying!

You can email me at mandy.dailey@duke.edu with questions.

---PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY---

Amazwi continues to educate South African women: our next step is further empowerment. Look forward to SOMA 2007 graduates working on their very own publication--from editing and writing to marketing and advertising. Visit www.amazwi.org to learn more!
