"We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity. It is also our greatest opportunity to lift global consciousness to a higher level." - Al Gore
Background

Some will always remember Al Gore as a former Senator or Vice President of the United States, but civilian Gore does just as much for his community as he did in his political offices. If “environment” became a buzz word in the last five or so years, then the name “Al Gore” buzzed right along side it. Gore is a relentless environmental activist who is involved in numerous projects and organizations for the cause. Gore both founded the Alliance for Climate Protection and worked to create the mega Live Earth Save OurSelves shows featuring A-list celebrities and musicians to promote global awareness. He is also the head of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers climate change solutions group. The former politician’s most widespread and influential work however was the creation of his book, and eventual documentary,An Inconvenient Truth. Gore won an Academy Award for this documentary that he stars in as the front man for environmental issues. Even in his downtime Gore is thinking “green.” His Nashville home is praised for its function on renewable energy that costs him an extra $432 a month, which he sites as worth it, for it equates the recycling just under 2.5 million aluminum cans. His efforts prompted Concordia University to present him with an honorary doctorate at the Youth Summit on Climate Change in Quebec, Canada. Gore’s most esteemed award is the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize (which he shared with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) for his contributions to bringing awareness and change on behalf of the global good. To celebrate, Gore decided to donate the prize winnings to the Alliance for Climate Protection. Even though Gore no longer holds political office he has still played a significant role in social affairs. Disappointed in the efforts of the United States government, Gore sent planes to rescue victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans on his own behalf. He is also not afraid to speak up and out to the American public and Congress about social issues including gay rights and discrimination. Gore demonstrates that whether you’re a politician or just the average citizen, you can make a difference in the world and for the world.
