What is 5K35?
5K35 was originally the hospital room in Portland where my mom became an angel. But, now it means much more than the physical space. 5K35 represents a promise I made to her just before she died, a promise to continue her fight against breast cancer so that other women wouldn't have to go through what she did. 5K35 is a simple message "give a little extra" which is symbolized by a distance marker we set 35 meters beyond the finish line of 5K races we run, like the Portland Race for the Cure. 5K35 is a team of people that includes my family, friends, friends of friends, friends of friends of friends, cancer survivors and other runners around the world that are connected by the common belief that we can and will defeat breast cancer. We will keep running until we do.
