Why I’m Here

I am a citizen journalist for MTV's Street Team '08. In total there are 51 of us – canvassing each state and Washington, DC (that’s me). MTV and The Knight Foundation hired each of us for an experiment in guerilla, multimedia journalism.

I studied Journalism and Political Science at Indiana University. I darted out to DC months after graduation, attracted to the a city full of brilliant minds and the opportunity to make my own path.

If you see a girl with a backpack of gear break into a sprint on K Street-- the Mall -- or Metro, wave hello. That's me, Erica America, on the hunt. I see potential in everything and everyone, but want to cover stories that are untold. Underexposed. And of course, all things that speak to us -- the young people who are often not addressed by politicians and mainstream press.
