You claim to be a university? Seriously? If that's the case and you want to be taken seriously, how many of your college credits can be transferred to a real college or university? I looked on your website's FAQ Section and it says (I quote): "At the present, the University of the People is not an accredited institution." Yeah, it's great to say that you have support from so many people, but it's meaningless if your credits count for nothing.

Education isn't free, folks. I tallied up all the informational books and magazines I buy, the Internet fees, and college fees, and I found this out: I spend more money on information than I do on food.

Hello Mach-

Thank you for your comment. Since we are a new university-we must undergo a rigorous process in order to apply for accreditation. The institution must be operational prior to applying.

We are very proud that the United Nations supports our cause and endeavor.

There are no books to buy. All study resources are via open courseware and other internet resources.

I would be happy to address any other questions or concerns you may have.

Best,
Daniela

Yes, I know you're proud of your organization, but this is all just cheer leading. However, I was thinking about your organization yesterday and how unlikely it is for the school to actually get accreditation. I'm not saying that the school still can't be useful. Realistically, what I see that you can do is help students get their GEDs. Your classes sound like they could adopt the way that home schoolers are being taught in the United States. Home schoolers now have the ability to be taught by Professors from Bob Jones University live by hooking up a cable box to their televisions. This is a new development that I think that's pretty slick.

A question I do have is: How do you plan on attracting the best and brightest professors to a free University?
