I don't see a problem with doing things in moderation

Don't get me wrong, I would never stick a needle in my arm or smoke meth or crack or something like that, but the more the government tries to restrict the drug flow in the US the harder people are going to try to access those drugs. I don't condem anyone for smoking some green or taking some pills once in a while. As long as the person has control over their habits, then leave them be. Unless they are committing crimes or bothering other persons, then it should be the drug users decision weather or not they want to do their drug of choice whatever that may be.

Ummm....have you ever lived with a drug addict, mrswall09? If not, allow me to shed a little light on this subject: drug addicts usually don't catch on that their usage is over the top until they have lost all their relationships, have O.D.'d or died. Once we open this door, it's a very slippery slope downhill. Look at it this way: has legalizing alcohol consumption actually done away with alcohol related crimes? You just have to look in your local newspaper to see all the DUIs to know the answer to that. Tell you what. How about you go seek some professional help for your issues instead of self-medicating. No, no. I'm not mad at you. I'm just being realistic. There's no shame in seeing a psychiatrist. It's a much healthier way of working out your problems than putting a toxic substance into your body that will eventually consume your whole life; isolate you from your family and good friends; earn you a criminal record, thus hindering your job seeking efforts in this already unstable economy; and then kill you.

I wholly agree, moderation is the key. It is a slippery slope to outlaw substance A. and not substance B or C. When we allow the Government to dictate what we can and cannot do with our own bodies, we send a collective message that not only are we docile and subjugates, but we require external control over our actions to regulate us (in the form of government).

Basically the antithesis of what Liberty means. The opposite of free. We are no better than unruly children in the charge of the state.

Of course there are drug addicts, of course there are alcoholics and sex addicts and food addicts and TV addicts and gossip addicts and adrenalin junkies etc etc etc! As long as there are people, there will be addictions. It is not the role of the US government to regulate the input into our bodies. That is wrong. Plain and simple. To admit otherwise is an active call for outright Fascism.

Except, GT, you forget that the role of government is to restrict evil. Illicit drug use and abusing prescription medication are clearly evil things.

I can see how you think mrswall09 because I myself used to think this way. I had been a cocaine and pill addict before and slowed down a lot, and I got into this idea that me doing it every once in a while is not bad, by every once in a while I mean about once a month. I see how naive I was now though, things in moderation is just an excuse used to make you feel like you aren't doing anything wrong. Thing is, you are doing something wrong, it will affect you and most likely your family as well, something can happen to change the course of your life in that one time a month or so that you use. I know it is not hard to listen to this advice and think, "It won't happen to me" or "That's not what I meant" believe me I thought the same until one day something happened. I just want to say be very careful and try not only to read all these peoples comments, but really listen to the words they have to say and put in to practice the ideas and wisdom they are imparting to you.

I know many people who were and are drug addicts. Its defiantly not a pretty sight. It is so hard to not have control over something when it can be acessed easily. I also know that by experience. The first time doing extacy i wanted to go out and get another cap the next day. But i didnt have much acess to it, thank god. There should be a harsher law on the possesion of drugs. However, weed on the other hand should be legal, it does wonders for many people with incurable diseases and helps in times of need for people and has no side effect except getting munchies and having a bad memory in the moment. It is actualy proven to increase better sight.

I partially agree with what you said. it is true that governments are making it worse, in a way. being too strict about something will only make the people want it more.
Its Adam and his forbidden apple all over again.
Look at the countries that tolerate marijuana, you wont find as many drug wars and over-doses.
I dont think that EVERYTHING is good in moderation. some drugs are just too dangerous to be taken, even once in a while. it just takes ONE bad day, and you might have an overdose.
Going back to marijuana, its a crime ileagalizing it.
It can be used in ways where its harmless. It might do good to the community.
(people do need to chill)
having pot for personal use shouldnt be a crime.
frankly, i'd rather see teenagers today (those who use drugs) smoke/injest pot instead of taking in all those synthesized, crazy chemicals they're into.

i disagree. i am a recovering adict and alcoholic. i put not only me but every one else in danger while high and drunk. even if peolple only do it sometimes they are still at risk for really hurting someone or devloping a deadly habbit. i never thought i would end up on meth kickin down peoples doors but it happened. and so i think it is good that the govt tries to controll drug use.
