Ditch The Label
Posted December 18, 2008 at 9:01 AM

Greetings,

My name is Kristin Duncan. I'm an 18 year old music fan that lives in Central Texas...and I need some help.

I'm working hand in hand with Liam Rawrd (DiageoLiam) on a project called Ditch The Label (DTL for short). This website is helping lead a movement to beat social stereotypes. I'm passionate about this project because I've lived most of my teenage life under the shadow of negative social stereotypes, and am determined to help other teenagers like myself. The Founder, Liam, is also incredibly passionate about the cause: We want nothing more than to help teenagers to BELIEVE in themselves, and to live past labels put on them. Labels can't define a person.

This website is more than a couple of kids talking about how their day went: we offer help to teenagers who are dealing with significant life issues, as well as group support for members who'd just like someone to talk to. Our site is quite large, having over 10,000 registered members and multiple topics teens can talk about, ranging from music and fashion to life help and educational tips. We've got a merchandise section, and the forums are monitored by a team of staff hand-picked by the founder for excellence in people skills, advice-giving, and general popularity with forum users. My name there is Vampi, I'm part of the Administrative staff.

Many users view DTL as an escape. Many feel that the users at DTL are like a family: we are all very close, and we offer a tight network of support and encouragement. Users have said the site has become "addictive", because they get alot of positive re-enforcement on ideas and plans. The site is free from bias or preference: we are not centered around religion, music taste, fashion sense, or anything that can label a person. Users are 100% free to talk about anything on their mind, and can be sure that they will not be ridiculed for their opinions. All users opinions matter to us.

But Ditch The Label is in trouble now.

We're looking for new ways to inspire our users and to help get the cause out into the open. We are teens leading teens, and a hands-on approach is what we're geared towards to give our futures the kick-start they need. We're looking to work with anyone and everyone interested in helping our cause.

So, I reach out with everything I believe in to anyone that can help us. I believe with your help, we can help to bring Ditch The Label to kids that may need the help. This site is for every kid who just doesn't quite "belong". The kids who have ever been told they're not "good enough". For the kids who are reaching out for help, we want to show them: we ARE here, we DO care, and we CAN help them make a difference.

Warmest regards,

Kristin Duncan
