So this entry's green tip is about household cleaners...Forgive me for forgetting the name of the product...I'll hit y'all with that in my next entry. But Arm & Hammer has put out a line of green household cleaners that use water and cartridges with cleaner. Not only are the cleaners plant based and biodegradable, but this also allows for the bottles to be re-used. Shout-out to Arm & Hammer for having such a fly product.
So I know most everybody who cares about the free world we live in watched Barack Obama's speech last night. I will admit that I didn't have a real intention to watch it. But I was passing by a station and saw that they were playing it and I stopped. It's rare that someone like me is truly moved, not just in the mind but in the soul. And last night, that man moved my soul. I was touched in a place that I feel has been dormant in my peers, the part of me that has the real potential to affect change, and make life better for those who will come after me, and those who will come after them, and so on. And one thing that I always say to people that Obama pretty much said last night...PEOPLE IN GENERAL WERE BALLIN' WHEN CLINTON WAS PRESIDENT!!! Just had to put that out there...But I discovered a few things in that speech that I'd like to write about. Number one: Michele Obama is beautiful. I mean, not just on the outside. But there's a very strong beauty in a woman who supports a man the way she's supported hers. I mean, come on y'all. Her man has a very real potential of becoming the leader of the free world. And, in public, though she's come under some fire, she has gone unwavered and supportive, and about getting her family through everyday. That's a bad chick right there. Number two: Aside from musicianship, Barack Obama is, by definition, a rock star. He held millions of people in the palm of his hand last night. And even if you don't plan on voting for Barack Obama, you can't deny that. He's got it, y'all...starpower that is. Number three: Barack Obama, even if he doesn't become the president, is a man of the people, and he has shown time and time again that he is a man of the people because he IS the people. How fly is that?!?!
This election, moreso than others of the past, has already changed our lives drastically, and we haven't even voted yet. This election means more to the people than others in the past. And I am humbled to live in such an important time in our country's history. And even though a vote is single and solitary in its effect, it has an effect nonetheless. That is why it's important to vote. Because even if you don't succeed, you can't say you didn't try, right? Even though I am in full support of the Democratic nominee, I know that he may or may not make it to the White House as our president. But I know that my vote could push him just a small increment closer, and to me, that's a power unparalleled. As a Black woman, my people haven't even had that power for that long. And the fact that people have fought and died, whose names I will probably never learn, is enough for me to flex that power and raise my voice and vote. To think that there are Black women today in other parts of the world that still don't have the right to vote is a trip. I'm honored that, even though we are at the bottom of some totem poles in this country, the vote puts us on a level playing field. So honor those who have honored you, no matter your race or sex. Rock out for them...and ROCK THE VOTE
Shout out to P. Diddy, Bad Boy, and the Vote or Die movement- way to use your power positively Puff...
The Obama family- I admire you all in so many ways
