I've never had a alcohol or drug addiction but I have see many people who have including my mom. Its like it takes control of you and everything you do...

My mom is a recovering drug addict.  She use to snort, shoot, smoke anything/everything she could get a hold of. I remember it got to the point where she was passed out all the time.. from the time I went to school until the time I went to bed.. she'd always be on the couch sleeping. I use to zone it out and pretend like everything was alright... but after so long it just got to me. It was hurting me and my younger sister a lot.. Just seeing her like that made me feel ashamed.

My family and I tried many times to conivce her that she had a problem and she needed to get help before she died... but she never listened.  You can't really help a drug/alcohol addict until they've realized that they do have a problem and they do need help.  I ended up moving into my grandparents house when I was twelve and a year later or so she got back on track and went to the Hope Center For Women in Lexington. She's been clean for about three years now and I'm so proud of her. I look up to her in so many ways. She now works at the Fayette County Detention Center as a drug and alcohol abuse counselour. I hope to someday follow in her foot steps when I  get older.. speaking out about drugs/alcohol is something I want to do.
