Are you someone who’s energetic and passionate about social causes? Do you have fresh and new ideas for solving our world’s most challenging problems? Are you armed with a mobile phone or a social network to make things happen? Then YOU are a Social Citizen. It’s true, the Millennial generation doesn’t like to be defined but there’s a growing movement of Social Citizens who are mixing it up and using digital tools and people power to make change in their communities and around the globe. Does this sound like you or people you know? Then you’re in the right place, because this is the beginning of a discussion around Social Citizens BETA, a paper sponsored by the Case Foundation. Here you can debate the issues and help us answer the questions we raised about how new technologies and strategies can impact engagement and activism. Thanks for checking us out on thinkMTV, please join our group and let your voice be heard!

Discussion: 2008 Digital Media and Learning Competiton

I just wanted to make sure that all of your members were aware of the 2008 $2M HASTAC/MacArthur Digital Media and Learning Competition. The theme of this year's competition is participatory learning which we broadly define as using new digital media for sharing ideas or planning, designing, implementing, or just discussing ideas and goals together.

I'm sure some of your members have a big idea on how to use digital media to make a positive change in the world. We want to hear your ideas! In addition to our larger Innovation in Participatory Learning Award, this year we have introduced a new award, our Young Innovators award, targeted to applicants aged 18-25. We want to help young innovator's get their ideas from the "garage" to implementation.

Check out the full details at http://www.dmlcompetition.net.

And follow us on Twitter @ http://twitter.com/dmlComp

I hope some of you that have those ideas cooking, will consider applying! You can email me at mandy.dailey@duke.edu with questions.
