Norway: Where Are They Now?

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? AN INTERVIEW WITH MERET.

What have you been up to since the shoot?

Since the shoot have I been at home and just doing what I usually use to do in the summertime, being with my friends and stuff like that. I haven’t done anything important.
I haven’t been on the tundra after the shoot, but we are going to work soon, then we will work in the reindeer closure. In the reindeer closure we ear cut the calves and slaughter the reindeers.

What do you miss most about the crew?

I am missing the crew so much, mostly the kidding and laughing. I am missing Bengt (the boss) most, he was so funny and he was always laughing.

What did you enjoy most about living with Chelsi? What was the biggest challenge living with Chelsi? Biggest surprise?

I liked Chelsi so much, because she was always talking about everything. And she was never barefaced with me and my family. I am missing the nights when we lied in the lavvo and talked about ours lives at home.

The biggest challenge living with Chelsi was all the questions she asked me, and when I had answered her she often answered me like this, “I don’t want to.” The sentence: 'I dont want to' Chelsi said all the time to me.  I mean ALL THE TIME! The first day I was thinking, Chelsi is a bimbo, a rich girl who gets everything she wants.

The second day she told me she had a job and she was working with homework after school, every day. So the biggest surprise for me was when I got to know her, and I noticed she wasn’t a bimbo, like I had thought all the time.

So people, don’t judge by appearances!

After learning about the way Chelsi lives in America, what do you think about her life?

I am thinking Chelsi’s life is like a dream, she can buy everything she wants. Chelsi’s life at home is just parties, nice dresses, shopping, homework, family and looking good. The life you saw on “My Super Sweet Sixteen”. I want to live her life for a week or two, but I don’t want to change lives with her forever.

Do you keep in touch with Chelsi? What would you say to her if you could talk to her now?

Yes I keep in touch with her, we are chatting on Facebook and we are sending e-mail. She is telling me how it is in the USA and what she is doing in college and stuff I don’t want to tell you guys about! Haha.  If I had met her now, had I given her a BIG hug and tell her how much I miss her!

Has your view towards America changed since the production? Did you learn anything about the US that you didn’t know before?

Before the production I knew a lot of the USA, so I haven’t learned anything about the USA I didn’t know before.

What was the most difficult thing about the production?

The most difficult thing about the production was the crew always there. The interview was difficult also when they were just filming me. I had to stand alone and tell the camera what we had done.

The difficult thing with the interview was to say every word right, because my English isn’t so good, by the way English is my third language. We had to film so much longer than Chelsi did.

What was the most important lesson you learned from the production? Did you try anything new or do something differently after the production?

I am not so sure if I learned any lesson? But I did learn to work together with people, if you want something done like you want to, you have to ask people if it is ok for them.

Example, my family had to ask the Siida about MTV and the filming, if it was ok for them. They said yes and I was so lucky MTV could come and film us.

When I am talking about a “Siida”, I am sure I have to explain to you what a siida is. A Siida is people working together with reindeers, on the wintertime. Working together is something I learned, it is very important!

How is your family? Any new changes since we last saw you?

It is going well with us here in north Norway, right now it isn’t any changes. Just a little thing, I am not living at home anymore. I have moved to a place called Kautokeino, I am here because I am going at school.
