We all want to be heard. From the mathlete to the band geek, to those who hide away in the library during lunch. Everyday at Golden Gate High School the voices of talented teens cry out for an ear, for an outlet for their thoughts and feelings on issues – real issues. Whether it is on uniforms, the school dance, or the struggling economy, there is no reason these voices should not be heard.
Guaranteed by the first amendment is the freedom to speak,
But without an outlet our school is forced to remain meek.
Hundreds of students from nations near and far,
Unable to tell their stories, share pieces of who they truly are.
Silent yet grasping for this unbelievable chance,
Like a path to an open door leading us all towards the same stance.
We are the voices of the future, the voices of change,
But with no means to harness our possibilities of unlimited range.
Journalism isn’t just for those who love to write and edit like me,
But for those who draw, plan, and organize for the world to see.
Our goal is to inspire, evoke, and report,
Our need is a paper of passion we can sport.
The voice is the heart;
The voice is the start,
The start of a revolution within our halls,
Filled with youth ready and raring to break down walls.
Cloaked in the liberty that is the freedom of the press,
Our desire to broadcast will not be suppressed.
We long to make history, to surpass all the rest,
But this can only be accomplished through your company's rigorous test.
There is no question that diversity, community, and spirit are the pillars of Golden Gate High,
But should we not have a legacy of wisdom and words to be remembered by?
