A Breath of Fresh Air in the Windy City
Posted April 18, 2008 at 2:21 PM

In the city of big shoulders it is very easy to get lost in the crowd if you are not sure of what you want out of your life. Krystal, a Teen Hero in the Lathrop Community, up on the northwest side of Chicago, has adopted the Cotter Club as her place to change to world. Krystal is back volunteering on her spare time at the club she has grew up in. Her decision to volunteer has turned out to be a blessing to all the youth that get to meet and work with Krystal on a daily basis. Always available to assist anyone with any homework or school projects her real passion is teaching kids all about the Culinary Arts. She is the head Chef in our Healthy Nation/Cooking Club where she assists the club staff with teaching club members how to prepare healthy snacks and meals when they are hungry at home. Krystal was named the 2008 Cotter Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year in December 2007 for her outstanding work ethic at home, in school, in her community and in her club. Since December, she has gone on to compete and win the city title of Boys and Girls Club of Chicago Youth of the Year which set her up for her biggest accomplishment yet, this month in April 2008, Krystal competed for the Illinois State Title of Boys and Girls Club of America and WON! We here at the Cotter Club in Chicago are very proud of all our club members but we are especially proud of Krystal for beating the odds, surviving one of the toughest neighborhoods in Chicago and still coming out on top. Her determination to have more, be better and never settle for second best is a great behavior for all our club members mirror each day they visit the Cotter Club. We wish Krystal all the luck at the Midwest Regional YOY Competition in July, she is very simply - Chicago's Very Best!
