Helios House- Sarah Reports For Think MTV
Posted June 19, 2008 at 12:09 PM

Sarah makes her debut as a news reporter for Think MTV!

I just got back from filling up my tank, and it cost me 48 dollars. Forty-eight! Things I would rather spend 48 dollars on:

1. Forty-eight toys from the ninety-nine cent store.
2. Two, count them two, copies ofIdentifying Optimal Groups for Making Judgmental Decisionsby Stephen Stumpf (two of you will get this)
3. Getting KRUNK! jk….

Days like these send a nagging reminder of the need to create renewable, sustainable, and frankly, cheaper alternatives. While the Helios House is far from perfect, it’s definitely a step in the right direction. I had my doubts a gas station that claims to be environmentally friendly seems a little out there, but in my piece you’ll see how they convinced me they are doing their part.

Now, do your part! Navigate around Think.mtv.com to find out how you can get involved with environmental groups near you. And most importantly, vote in November! We need candidates in office who make our environment a priority, because as Al Gore says, elections matter. So, do your research and make your voice heard.

Hopefully, someday soon, my forty-eight dollars can go to something a little more productive. Like maybe a new shirt for Nick? I mean maybe instead of “I only date blondes” and the “Lady Lova” t-shirt, I’m thinking “My lovin’s like solar power: hot and sustainable!” Well, I’m willing to take suggestions…

I believe Sara has a great future in broadcast journalism. A small piece of advice would be to becareful of not using extreme facial expressions - it reads poorly on camera (see the bit re: putting air in the tires). In addition, the soundbites in the beginning could have been a bit meatier. Overall, great job.

I agree with bellelise, when you make those aweful facial expressions it makes your face look at big haggy, like an old hag without teeth. If I were you I would just stick to narration and just leave on air camera personalities to someone else. The camera does not like you.

Haha, oh please. It's called having a personality. You are just trying to find a lame way to bitch about her.
I just think it's funny she got you to register on this website!

Hi Sara!  I am a news anchor in the Philadelphia market, and I also graduated from the Cronkite School.  In this market there are several sun devils enjoying awesome careers in TV News!  The business has changed a lot, and it's great you are learning to blog, because that is also part of the job now-- speaking of, I was watching your piece on the Helios gas station, and I was very impressed with you and the concept, so I blogged about it! Check it out, and best of luck in your journalism endeavors...
