King Day Top Ten National Teams

The LEAGUE’s King Day Event encouraged students nationwide to perform acts of caring, respect and fairness -- encouraging young people to perform good deeds, expecting nothing in return.  We celebrate and are inspired by the contributions of our LEAGUE student and teams.

CONGRATULATIONS!

A Commission on a Mission

There’s no better way to make sure an organization is on track than by involving your key audience in assessing its performance and planning for the future.  That’s precisely the thinking behind creating The LEAGUE National Youth Commission.

“These students will serve as advocates and ambassadors for The LEAGUE by taking an active role in planning and evaluating programming, as well as encouraging additional students and schools to join, says Doreen Stephens, Vice President of Programming & Marketing.  We look forward to the ideas, energy and enthusiasm that we know The National Youth Commission will generate.”

To be considered for the National Youth Commission, they must be a high school student and  attend a school that’s part of The LEAGUE.  They should be passionate about making a positive difference for others in their  communities.

National Youth Commission members will serve a one-year term with the option of staying on for a second year.  Interested students should go to
www.theleague.org for more information and to download an application.

Completed applications should be e-mailed to: youthcommission@leagueworldwide.org. For more information, contact maria.cruz@leagueworldwide.org

The TIPing Point

With a brand new President, comes new energy and new opportunities to make the world a better, cleaner, safer, and more peaceful place. If you’re looking for a fun and easy way to make a positive difference, step right up and join The LEAGUE.

As a school- and web-based system for service learning, The LEAGUE provides a seemingly endless supply of ideas, lesson plans and activities, as well as the framework for creating four core events.  If you’re not sure where to start, try asking yourself and your team three questions:

  1. What are your interests and talents?
  2. What are your community’s greatest needs (environment, literacy, poverty, animal welfare, etc.)?
  3. Who do you most want to help (children, senior citizens, animals, etc.)?

Next, brainstorm lists for each of these questions and then combine them to find some creative service ideas. For example, let’s say that your team loves the theater and that one of your community’s greatest issues is poverty.  Your team also decides that it really want to help kids.  One service idea might be to offer a free acting workshop for kids from local schools.

The possibilities are endless.  If you need help matching your interests with organizations in need, check out the following resources:
