The Common Ground Foundation will be hosting "Start the Show 'n Bowl," a joint bowling competition and benefit concert. Common will be performing at the event, along with Talib Kweli, Will I Am, The Roots, Bilal, Marsha of Floetry, and other surprise artists. The concert proceeds will go to BE Empowered, which sets up afterschool programs and support systems for Chicago youth. The fundraiser will also benefit Common's Read for Change Program, which sponsors an online book club to promote reading among children. The Common Ground Foundation works to empower young people through the power of education and self esteem.
"I always believed that if we started with the youth, then we would be planting the seeds for our future to blossom," says Common. "Give the children a sense of hope, self-esteem, and love that will better the world. I think making a difference in the lives of others is my life's greatest purpose. I walk this path with faith knowing the Common Ground Foundation will change the world."
