After suffering a brain hemorrhage in late 2006, Senator Tim Johnson’s future in the Senate wasn’t clear. After almost a year of therapy and rest he did return to the Senate and his duties but was confined to a wheelchair and had a slight speech impediment. This choice to return has left many people in South Dakota wondering if maybe it is time for Senator Johnson to step down and let someone new take his place not only to benefit his health but also the state of South Dakota.
