With the Democratic National Convention next week everyone is starting to get geared up, especially the delegates. One of the district delegates from South Dakota traveling to Denver is James Feinstein from Sioux Falls, SD.
James is 20 year old sophomore at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa who is studying Anthropology and Political Science. James is president of the College Democrats at Luther and has been interested and active in this election since September when he originally pledged his delegate vote to Hillary Clinton.
But what is a delegate? A delegate is someone from a specified district that is chosen to support a chosen candidate of their choice.
“I chose to vote for Clinton after I saw all eight of the candidates in Iowa. Basically what you have to do as a delegate is you have to vote for them on the first ballot and then vote for anyone you want on the second ballot,” said James. “I did choose Hillary Clinton, and if I could choose the president I would choose her but I do back Obama."
When asked if he had any predictions of who Obama’s running mate might be all he would say is he hoped it was Joe Biden.
“Biden would be a great choice. He is a great attack dog. He has no problem speaking his mind and really knows his foreign policy which is great for Obama.”
“Being where so much is going to happen, that’s probably the most exciting thing,” he said. “Being at the center and the core, it’s literally like being at the nucleus of the Democratic party. I’m excited to see Obama again and meet all the other delegates.”
The Democratic National Convention is sure to be an exciting time not only for the candidates and delegates but for everyone watching at home.
