RNC Day 3
Posted September 03, 2008 at 10:28 PM

Day three of the convention I spent out and about taking in the activities surrounding the convention. First, I went to Civic Fest at the Minneapolis Convention Center. I spoke with the CEO of the One Campaign. I honestly wasn't that familiar with the campaign, and now realize what a cool concept it is. It is a non partisan effort to bring an end to poverty around the world. I think one of the best things about the campaign is the power it gives voters. On the One Campaign's website, voters can compare candidates side by side to see where they stand on various issues cocerning world poverty. Check it out at one.org.

As I was leaving the convention I saw Ben Stein (from Ferris Beullers Day Off!) I wanted to grab him for an interview, but he's a fast walker!

This afternoon I headed over to the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute to see Sen. Joseph Lieberman speak to a packed lecture hall about what a McCain Presidency would do for the U.S. He spoke at length about the need for free trade agreements, which he said is one of the reasons he supports McCain. Tried to get an interview with the senator, but he had to leave early!

As I was about to leave the University of Minnesota, I noticed a big red double-decker bus parked near a Chipotle. Big blue signs draped over the bus read: "The Not So Straight Talk Express." The bus started to pull away from the curb, but I was determined not to lose another possible interview - so I yelled, "wait! Wait!" as I ran after it down the street, past a dozen people leisurely eating at an outdoor cafe. Luckily my sprint was not in vain. They pulled over and agreed to talk to me. Turns out the comedian/talk show host Spike Feresten is using the bus to promote the season premiere of his show (which I hadn't heard of - and for some reason thought he hosted a radio show). Anyway, the very funny Feresten told me that he is in the Twin Cities offering the Republicans a shuttle bus tour of the Larry Craig bathroom stall.

Wasn't able to get into the RNC tonight, but I watched Sarah Palin's speech at home, and I look forward to talking to Alaska Street Teamer Dani Carlson about Palin tomorrow! I also want to mention that Dani recently twittered to tell everyone to tune in to CNN Thursday night at 6:30 EST to see her interview with Gov. Palin from Super Tuesday! Way to go, Dani!
