Nevada Politics Today
Posted May 15, 2008 at 3:35 PM

Dina Titus announced on Tuesday that she will be making a run for Congress, representing District 3. Dina Titus has served as State Senator for 20 years, and had an unsuccessful run for the gubernatorial position last year. She will be running in Nevada Congressional District 3, a very interesting spot of Nevada as it combines both urban and rural values. Likely to win the Democratic part of District 3, she will need to reach out to conservative, rural Nevadans if she hopes to win this election against incumbent Jon Porter.  If you recall, I had an interview with Dina Titus discussing Nevada as a caucus state versus a primary state. To keep up to date with her campaign for Congress, go towww.dinatitus.com.

Aside from democrats running for Congress, the Nevada Republican Convention had their say as to who should be their party nominee earlier this month in Reno. John McCain and Ron Paul were fully represented at the convention, held at the Peppermill Hotel and Casino. It is an interesting turn of events in Nevada, as Ron Paul came in a distant second to Mitt Romney's landslide victory. John McCain followed up in a close 3rdplace. Ron Paul supporters definitely had their say at the event, and evened delayed voting after much debate on voting rules, delegation, and adoption of the party platform. The event was supposed to be quick and easy, but was recessed after numerous rule changes and mishaps that occurred during the convention. This convention style seems to be the norm in Nevada, as the Clark County Democratic Convention was also recessed until late last month at a bigger venue that could house all participants. It appears that the republicans of Nevada are just as excited about this election as the democrats. No date has yet been released for the continued convention.

The Nevada State Democratic Convention will also be held this coming weekend in Reno. Yours truly will be bringing you all the excitement, hopefully with a little more order, and interviews of young delegates representing Nevada. I will be at the convention all weekend long as well as bringing you some of the special touches that the "biggest little city" offers.
