VIDEO:  When Birth Control Becomes a Capital Crime

Concerned citizens from both ends of the ideological spectrum were on hand at the second day of hearings on two controversial measures in Georgia: HB1 and HR536. The combined effect of the two provisions -- legally defining a "person" beginning at the moment of conception, and providing the death penalty for the felony murder of any such life as broadly defined -- could have led to criminalizing popular forms of birth control which may interfere with uterine implantation.

This is really good, Shelby. It's scary, and also heartening at the same time. That woman's eyes are really intense.

You might look intense, too, if you were a 31 year old mother of 6.
I'm really glad you covered this Shelbs. If I heard correctly, this law would criminalize abortion even in cases of rape and incest? Holy nullification-of-human-rights Batman. Oh yes, and according to the woman who was speaking, we wouldn't have this "problem" with illegal aliens if these unborn babies could grow to populate the work force. Because, you know, we have such an overabundance of jobs as it is.

Yep, rape & incest = tough stuff for the pregnant victim, and that would even theoretically apply to emergency contraception administered in the hours immediately following the attack. Once that sperm meets that egg, they call it a "person," and if you do something chemically or mechanically (hello several forms of birth control) to prevent its implantation into the uterine wall, you are killing a person.

It should be noted here that one of the doctors at the hearing testified that something like 65% of all fertilized eggs/blastocysts naturally fail to implant successfully, getting discharged with your monthly friend presumably. Just so we're on record about how many "persons" are naturally aborted by the grace of God.

I don't understand how anyone could think these sort of broad spectrum laws are good for the people. These measures have all the subtlety of a nuclear explosion, and the possibility to have just as wide a range of effects. This is what happens when lawmakers (and their supports) are so blind with passion they can't talk.
