Atlanta Reaches Critical Mass

As the "pain in the pump" stories dominate the news, join me on a bike ride through downtown Atlanta as part of the monthly Critical Mass. Riders assemble on the last Friday of every month in cities all over the globe as part of "a worldwide movement to promote the use of bicycles as a viable means of transportation." Though the flavor of CM rides varies from city to city, here in Atlanta the riders don't seem to meet too much resistance. (In other cities, such as its native San Francisco, New York, and Chicago among others, local law enforcement hasn't always been as tolerant as the Atlanta Police Department. That's not to say that APD has never taken issue with Critical Mass, but our fair city has avoided major altercations, Mass breakups, or group arrests.)
Do you think the soaring price of gas is promoting the general public's open-mindedness toward the horde of cyclists taking over their streets on a Friday afternoon? Watch the video!
Critical Mass Atlanta maintains a website at CriticalMassAtlanta.org and meets on the last Friday of each month at 6:00pm at Woodruff Park downtown. To find a Critical Mass near you, checkcritical-mass.info.
